Cricketers back on the ramp.

June 25, 2007

Yes you read it right. No we are not talking about a cricket camp. After a brief hiatus it looks like all our cricketers will be back doing their signature cat walks. The MAd frenzy to rope in the cricketers is back. A series win against a highly fancied Bangladesh opposition seems to have turned the tide in their favor. Does my post stink of cynicism?

Indian Cricket Team to the British Isles

June 13, 2007

The Indian team to Ireland and England was announced today. The overall team balance looks very nice. Sreeshanth and Zaheer spearhead the pace bowling and should be able to exploit the English conditions very well. Zaheer especially is expected to do well given his county experience. Sehwag’s dropping is a welcome change and Dinesh Karthik’s inclusion is a strong indication that strong domestic performance will be amply rewarded. Our strong batting needs no introduction and hope they actually deliver this time around. Kumble would be counted upon for his experience and given that Monty Panesar did very well against the windies, we can expect some good leg breaking from kumble.

Hope this team does the country proud and reconnect with the disenchanted fans.

Test squad: Rahul Dravid (captain), Wasim Jaffer, Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar, Vangipurappu Laxman, Mahendra Dhoni, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, Dinesh Karthik, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, Zaheer Khan, Anil Kumble, Ramesh Powar, Rudra Pratap Singh, Ranadeb Bose and Ishant Sharma.

One-day squad: Rahul Dravid (captain), Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, Zaheer Khan, Rudra Pratap Singh, Piyush Chawla, Ramesh Powar, Ajit Agarkar and Rohit Sharma.

So India Lost!!

March 23, 2007

So India Lost to Sri Lanka. A large amount of tears must have been shed for this team. But over the patriotism to our team one must ask this question “Did this team deserve to win”. They did not act like a team out there to win. There was no energy in this team. They were all going about their motions. Some of the batsmen it appeared were in a hurry to get to the bus which was leaving for the beach. Overall I am not going to shed a tear for this highly overrated team.

Hush Hush Shoaib!!

October 17, 2006

Pervez Musharraf wants Akhtar not to divulge all the details at this point. So my mind started wandering on this front.

a) The Pakistani president has time to deal with such things? Is’nt he busy fighting the war on terror. How come he has time to deal with a doping scandal of a cricketer?

b) Is there an ulterior motive for him to ask Shoaib to withold the information? Is he planning a In the line of fire 2

Too many questions hardly any answers.

Why is Tendulkar Great?

September 15, 2006

So what makes tendulkar great? Is it his talent as a batsman, his perseverance, his ability to come back and score a century after a surgery, is it his ability to prove hiscritics wrong? Well in my opinion all of these factor count but above all I would rate his humility and his ability to think on his feet as the qualities that differentiates him from mortals. Take for instance his view that there was nothing wrong with the Duckworth/Lewis formula when mortals would have criticized it given the context. Like they say in tamil “tendulkar engayo poitan!!”

Hansie Crojne and South Africa’s new fielding coach.

August 31, 2006

Read an article that South Africa’s new fielding coach is jonty rhodes. In the interview he said if Nelson Mandela could forgive the people who had inflicted so much damage to him, it does not take much to forgive Hansie. How true? People make mistakes and I think

Maltese Falcon

When I sang this nursery rhyme to my son, I definitely did not have the Maltese Falcon in mind. Can’t imagine what goes into making a yacht for $100 Million (Chunk of change!!)

Italian Job.

July 4, 2006

Italy pulled off one of the best victories of all time in World Cup Soccer. I am sure every Italian must be cherishing this sweet victory against Germany in the SemiFinals and what a game it was? I was not a big supporter of Italy and was rooting for Germany. But once I saw Italy playing with heart in the second overtime, I converted and Grasso converted soon after :). Del Piero was awesome and I would rate him as Man of the Match given the way he energized the Italian offense. Kudos Italy you deserved this victory.

Brazil vs France on Yahoo! answers

July 1, 2006

Yahoo! Answers had a question about who would win the Brazil vs France game. Only 4 votes for france and 12 votes from Brazil. Wisdom of the crowd anyone ?

France Humbles Brazil.

July 1, 2006

I knew Brazil would be humbled but did not realize it would be happen this soon and that too at the hands of France which was not one of the teams in the reckoning for the World Cup. The suspect brazilian defence caved and let Theirry Henry unguarded and he made no mistake netting a volley off a sweet kick from Zidane. France definitely deserved to win this one. So the 2006 edition of World cup soccer is going to be an All European affair. I predict a Germany vs Portugal final but again as they say “this is soccer and anything can happen”.
